AI DOOM: AI Generated Video Games Are Here
Remember DOOM? The classic 1993 first-person shooter?
Well, Google just taught an AI to play it...without using any game code! 🤯
Researchers from Google and Tel Aviv University unveiled "GameNGen" - a neural network that generates DOOM gameplay in real-time.
No game engine required!
🧠 GameNGen's Training Regimen
☑️ Train an AI agent to play DOOM
☑️ Record 900 million frames of its gameplay
☑️ Feed the frames to a custom diffusion model
☑️ The model learns to generate the next frame based on past frames + player inputs
🕹️ DOOM, Powered by Neural Networks
✅ GameNGen dreams up DOOM gameplay frame-by-frame
✅ Remembers game state like health, ammo, opened doors
✅ Runs at 20+ FPS on a single TPU
By visualizing GameNGen's output, researchers gain insight into how the model "thinks" about the game.
By visualizing the generated frames, we glimpse the AI's imperfect understanding of the game's rules and logic.
GameNGen highlights the potential of diffusion models to simulate intricate games in real-time.
My Take 🤔
GameNGen showcases the power of diffusion models to simulate complex games in real-time.
While not a replacement for traditional game engines, this research opens intriguing possibilities at the intersection of AI and gaming.
Imagine AI generating endless game content, levels, and characters on the fly!
The future of gaming may be written not in code, but in neural networks.
What other classic games would you like to see reborn through AI?
Is it only a matter of time until AI can make video games for an audience of one? You!
Oprah to explore AI's future with tech titans. Upcoming TV special features Winfrey discussing AI's impact with Bill Gates and Sam Altman, promising viewers essential insights into this transformative technology.
OpenAI's model codenamed ‘Strawberry’ to fuel its new model ‘Orion’. Strawberry will generate synthetic data for training Orion, potentially taking us one step closer to AGI.
